Our Charity. Our Community.
In a region of the world that experiences many natural disasters, NACare was established in 2015 as the charity arm of the New Apostolic Church (Western Pacific District) to offer assistance to those communities most affected by these events. Ongoing assistance is also offered to communities through our project work, which aims to provide resources in a number of different ways to many areas of the Western Pacific region.
Floods, bushfires, cyclones, drought, earthquakes… the Western Pacific corner of the globe is highly exposed to many natural disasters. In the short term, immediate aid can assist to provide food, accommodation and medical supplies to those that need it most during a crisis. When the need arises occurs, NACare may nominate to establish an appeal whereby funds can be directed to assist with a specific disaster.
In the longer term, disaster mitigation work can assist communities to rebuild after an event, and help to reduce the risk of future loss. Additionally, NACare works to improve and strengthen communities by funding local projects such as skills and education programs. This proactive approach to disaster management and community programs increases the opportunities for people in these districts that might otherwise be unavailable to them.
Not every disaster makes news headlines, however there are occasions when a requirement for assistance in the community is identified. NACare can help by providing a donation of goods or funds to benefit those in need.
How your donations have helped
2019 / 2020 Bushfire Appeal
The 2019 / 2020 bushfires were amongst the worst in Australian history. An estimated 46 million acres was burnt, close to 6000 buildings were destroyed, and at least 34 people lost their lives, including several firefighters. NACare was pleased to assist by donating to several different communities, to aid in their recovery from this event.
Townsville Flood Relief
The 2019 flood experienced in Townsville (Australia) was one of the most serious natural disasters to ever impact the region. Lives were lost, houses and infrastructure were severely damaged or destroyed, and many livestock perished. NACare’s donation allowed organisations working on the ground to assist those in immediate need of a helping hand.
Disaster assistance for Fiji
In 2016, Cyclone Winston left a trail of destruction in Fiji. As the largest storm to ever make landfall in Fiji, it destroyed entire villages leaving many thousands of people homeless. Hundreds of schools and community facilities were also demolished. NACare continues to offer assistance in Fiji, helping to rebuild structures in various communities.
